South Eastern Regional College visit to PlastIndia – New Delhi

16 March 2009

The Department for Employment and Learning’s Connected Project recently support Terry Francis, Head of Business, Innovation & Development, South Eastern Regional College, to take part in a knowledge transfer visit to New Delhi, India.

During the visit Terry had the opportunity to visit a number of leading universities and training organisations. As a result technology transfer links with some of the world’s experts in polymer processing and composite technology have been established.  Later this year it is hoped that representatives from these universities will visit Northern Ireland.

While in Dehli, Terry had the opportunity to attend PlastIndia, the world’s 2nd largest plastics exhibition.  It draws exhibitors from all over the world showing plastics processing equipment, new technologies and specialist processes used in polymer processing.

On his return Terry said:

“The trip to India has been a valuable opportunity to network with some of the world leading innovators in the polymers industry.  I hope the contacts I have made will help bring significant new knowledge, technology and skills to learners and business partners of the College.”

Also visiting New Dehli where representatives from Denroy Plastics in Bangor who have a subsidiary company in Pantnagar near New Delhi.  The Denroy staff members and David Cree from the Engineering Training Council, visited the Brushman (Pantnagar) factory and also visited the Plastindia exhibition. David Cree from the Engineering Training Council who also participated on the trip said:

“This type of networking is essential for further education sector because it widens the knowledge of staff members and helps develop strong working partnerships between industry, further education and sectoral bodies”.

Terry Francis also commented:

“The Connected project has been central to the development and progression of polymer training throughout Northern Ireland.   This type of visit would not be possible without their support”
