South Eastern Regional College (SERC) has 5 ‘Centres of Excellence’ demonstrating high levels of quality in the areas of Electronics, Manufacturing Engineering, Software Engineering, ICT & Computing and Construction & the Built Environment. These are based across all campuses.
Centre of Excellence in Engineering (Bangor Campus)The College has an excellent reputation in computer aided engineering with very well equipped CNC and CAD facilities which are used extensively in the provision of training. These are supported by extensive knowledge and experience in rapid prototyping and robotics. A state of the art industrial automation suite has been recently commissioned, and it contains PLCs, mechatronics and related resources linked to these. Modern computer suites fitted with high specification machines are everywhere within the centre and these are used by students for programming applications and in running a wide variety of software.
Renewable Energy Technologies (Downpatrick & Lisburn Campuses) The College is part of the Renewable Energy Installer Academy which has been developed in partnership with Action Renewables and Sustainable Energy Ireland. Training courses are provided for installers, designers in Biomass and Heat Pump Systems and staff have developed extensive expertise in all aspects of these technologies.
Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Training Services (Lisburn Campus) – The College has worked with a number of refrigeration and food manufacturing companies to deliver training in Brazing Standards, Safe Handling of Refrigerants and Commercial and Industrial Air Conditioning Systems. We also deliver Further Education and Apprenticeship programmes in this area, and has recently introduced Higher Education qualifications combining Refrigeration and Air Conditioning with Sustainable Energy. All our specialised trainers have over 20 year’s industry experience.
Construction Plant Training (Lisburn Campus) - The College runs a number of Further Education courses and Apprenticeships in Construction Plant working with companies such as CP Hire, Balloo Hire and Saville Tractors. Courses have an extensive work placement element to allow students to apply their knowledge and skills in a practical environment. With the construction industry in Northern Ireland experiencing high levels of activity, the College is committed to providing well-qualified and skilled young people in this area.
A wide range of Creative Services are available including multimedia, music and web & game design with courses based across all campuses.
