Northern Ireland Media Academy: Digital Storytelling - Moving Images

The guest speakers were Michael Lennox and Ronan Blaney, the Director and writer of BAFTA winning and Oscar nominated short Boogaloo and Graham, Alison Millar, the BAFTA and IFTA winning director/producer of The Shame of the Catholic Church andThe Disappeared , Christine Morrow, Northern Ireland Screen’s short film development coordinator and Charmaine O’Donnell, the winner of the Baron Von Munchausen storytelling competition.
The event took place in the Foyle Theatre in Derry~Londonderry and attracted a wide range of companies and freelancers involved in the media industries in Northern Ireland and also representatives from the University of Ulster, NWRC and SERC.
The morning session comprised presentations by the guest speakers on the theme of how best to tell a story on film, interspersed with Charmaine O’Donnell’s telling of a very tall tale of her own to illustrate how a good story well told can keep an audience captivated to the end.
In the afternoon, a series of breakout workshops allowed participants more informal and in-depth contact with the guests in order to address specific issues, including fundraising, the production process and storytelling best practice.
The day proved a real success and was possible through Connected’s continued support for the Northern Ireland Media Academy’s guest speaker programme.
