The Open University Hosts Creative Writing Workshop

29 January 2021

The Open University, with the support of Connected, recently delivered a three-part online professional development course offering practical and supportive training for Creative Writing facilitators who wish to learn more about teaching in a virtual environment.

Imelda Haran, Knowledge Exchange Manager at The OU explains:

“Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, which saw the temporary closure of many arts, cultural and community venues, facilitators and teachers have worked hard to transfer the work they would normally do face-to-face to the online world. This is also an issue shared by my local SMEs. Through this short course, delivered in three 1.5-hour sessions, we are delighted to share this expertise with freelance Creative Writing tutors and facilitators, as well as those who aspire to develop this aspect of their skills. We were able to open this course up to anyone working in community education settings, such as museums, community centres or visitor attractions.  It has enabled us to transfer our knowledge and expertise in this area to other sectors, who might not otherwise have the opportunity to avail of such knowhow.”

The Open University has decades of experience in teaching online, and since 2006 has been one of the leading providers of Creative Writing modules and qualifications. Feedback from the course has been excellence with a full house of attendees on all days.
