Garlester Limited is one of the largest composites manufacturers in the Republic of Ireland. Based in Slane, Co.Meath, all Garlester products are made specifically to each customer's individual requirements - from one off projects and small batch manufacturing to ongoing continuous production needs in different industries.
About the Case
Belfast Met were requested to provide consultancy services in the areas of manufacturing quality improvement and personnel development to support the company. The College provided a comprehensive analysis of composite manufacturing processes and constructed a plan as to how the company could achieve these. Training of shopfloor laminators also took place working towards a PEO Level 2 qualification

Belfast Metropolitan College is a National Skills Academy accredited Centre of Excellence for Composites. This means that the College has achieved high standards in the services and training provided to local industry through experienced and trained staff, excellent facilities and the right support structures. The College offers training of all kinds in the area of composite materials as well as product manufacturing on in our high-tech workshop and manufacturing consultancy.
Following the report produced by Belfast Met, Garlester aimed to implement its findings in the areas of training and quality improvements. Segregations were made within various disciplines of the factory to avoid cross-contamination, an increased focus on materials tracking was put in place, the environmental conditions were controlled more accurately and laminating training was undertaken. A particular achievement was the notable reduction in porosity on parts.
Garlester Ltd have recently reformed under new management as Global Green Composites.
